make my yesterday

Not only did I make someone's day yesterday, someone entirely different made mine. First, I found a couple of diamond rings in the ladies room down the hall in the building where I work. All I had to do is bang on the closest office door and the ringless woman was no longer.
She said she would have "died" if she lost them, so perhaps I even saved her life. Perhaps not, but still today she's giddy with delight about it and can't thank me enough. What was I going to do, hock them? I can't take that kind of karma.
Speaking of karma, sometimes if you want something badly enough, it can be yours. This was the the case when I needed a ticket to the sold-out Polly Jean Harvey show last night at Great American Music Hall. Got one! Paid a pretty penny but who cares?
My favorite soundgirl, Kim let me stand with her backstage. The show was perfect and I am so glad. I got to see Polly break a string and wait for the guitar tech with the backup Gretsch.
But what was she wearing? As always, her taste in clothes is great. She's the perfect clotheshorse, built like Sarah Jessica Parker and can make anything look amazing. Even a goldenrod tube dress made of t-shirt fabric with what could have been Alfalfa screenprinted on it.
The kicker was her kickers. They were superhigh yet comfy pumps, I'm only guessing Charles Jourdan because of the shape but they were surely couture. They looked like leather and the color was fluorescent highlighter pink. To see her rocking out standing in front of an Orange stack, I was in pure heaven.
